Hargitay aimed to provide August with a name that was both unique and meaningful without veering into the realm of the unconventional. “We wanted something that stood out but wasn’t too far out,” she said, humorously contrasting her choice with names like ‘Burlap.’
Their son’s full name, August Miklos Friedrich Hermann, reflects a blend of tradition and simplicity. Despite Hermann’s extensive five-name heritage, Hargitay chose to keep August’s name concise, adding only one middle name to avoid overwhelming complexity.
August’s arrival also spurred Hargitay to maintain her fitness, not out of vanity, but to keep up with her growing family. “It’s not about being fat or thin. It’s about staying energized to support my kids and be the best wife and mom I can be,” she told People. Her fitness regimen focused on a balanced diet, steering clear of sugars and wheat, and enjoying wine in moderation.
In 2011, Hargitay and Hermann expanded their family through adoption, bringing home Amaya Josephine and Andrew Nicolas. Hargitay playfully revealed that while adoption had always been part of their plan, August believed he was the mastermind behind their new additions. “August thinks it was his idea to have a baby sister and a baby brother,” she laughed. “He’s quite proud and feels pretty powerful about it!”
