Law and Order: SVU star Kelli Giddish is set to return to the show just months after her character Detective Amanda Rollins bowed out — but there’s a major twist.
TVLine reports that the actress will appear in SVU‘s upcoming season 24 finale as well as in the penultimate season three episode of Law & Order: Organized Crime.
But when Rollins returns, she’ll be pregnant.
Giddish’s most recent episode as Rollins aired in December 2022 and saw her character marrying Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino) before leaving to take a new job at Fordham University. Her exit came after 11 years and 13 seasons on the NBC drama.
Following the episode’s premiere, Giddish explained her side of the exit from the show.
“My side of things is just that it’s time in the Rollins storyline,” she said at the time. “I felt like where it was heading, and where it headed last night, just seemed the right place to leave it right now.
“I am so excited about things going on in my personal life and kind of the mirroring of what’s going on in my personal life and in Rollins’, there’s a lot of joy to be experienced.”
Giddish also revealed that a decision was made on the character’s future “before the season started” so she had time to work with writers on a fitting send-off for Amanda.
“We worked on this storyline together, and I think the last episode culminated the beautiful Rollins and Benson relationship, and we got to see Carisi and Rollins get married, which was such a treat,” she explained.
Law & Order: SVU airs Thursdays on NBC in the US. The show airs on Sky Witness in the UK, with select episodes available on NOW.
