Law & Order: SVU has ‘gotten worse and worse,’ fans rip as they blast new episode as a ‘hot mess’ and ‘downright kooky’

The show is only two episodes into Season 25, but viewers are already insisting the writing has only gotten worse with each broadcast.

The latest broadcast saw Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) work with the FBI on an unsolved case.

Odafin “Fin” Tutuola (Ice-T) and Joe Velasco (Octavio Pisano), meanwhile, looked into “a flash mob robbery that led to a sexual assault,” according to the official synopsis.

SVU fans called out the writing of the episode, insisting they didn’t find the characters, both the main stars and the victims, to be believable.

“This week’s #svu was a mess,” one fan tweeted. “The mental gymnastics the show is doing to make sure the cops are always the good guys are just downright kooky at this point.”

“This episode is a hot mess,” a second upset Law and Order viewer ripped on X, formerly Twitter.

“Who is writing this garbage for Law and Order #SVU?? These episodes have only gotten worse and worse,” a third wrote.

“This gotta be the worst episode of #SVU I’ve ever seen. Throw it all in the trash,” another fan demanded.

Though fans, overall, haven’t been too happy with Season 25 of the long-running series so far, there was a moment in the premiere episode that touched viewers’ hearts.

Shortly into last week’s episode, a few characters paid tribute to the late Richard Belzer’s character, Munch.

Richard died after a series of health issues at the age of 78 in February 2023.

In the Season 25 premiere of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, titled Tunnel Blind, Benson gave a quick toast in tribute.

In the scene, Fin told Olivia and Peter Scanavino’s Dominick “Sonny” Carisi Jr’s that “Munch would have ran him off just telling him his theory about the Kennedy assassination.”

The trio were at a bar discussing a new figure in the department, as Carisi said: “To Munch. The man, the legend…”

“To Detective Munch!” Olivia added as the threesome clinked their glasses.

Surprised fans were touched by the moment.

“Liv, Fin, and Sonny are now mentioning Munch, god rest his soul, while over at the bar!” one fan shared on X.

“Here’s to detective Munch,” a second wrote, adding a crying face emoji with a blue heart and another emoji wearing a halo.

“That toast to Munch though. Both he and Richard Belzer are sorely missed,” a third fan shared.
